Babadan is a family-run micro-lot grown on the slopes of Mount Merapi in Central Java, at an elevation of 1,200 to 1,400 meters. In this region shaped by volcanic activity, the soil is continually enriched by ash, providing the coffee trees with exceptional organic matter. The coffee grows slowly here, in an atmosphere of mist and soft light, nurtured by farming practices rooted in observation, patience, and harmony with nature.

The Terroir
At the foot of Mount Merapi, the earth is alive. It exudes the heat of magma and the gentleness of the mist. Each eruption leaves a blanket of ash that fertilizes the soil and nourishes the coffee trees. It is in this landscape—both majestic and unpredictable—that a Javanese family cultivates Babadan coffee, a micro-lot crafted with patience and precision.
The people of this region of Merapi are known for their serenity, their laid-back lifestyle, and their respect for the natural rhythm of life. This philosophy is reflected in every aspect of their way of life: nothing is rushed; everything is observed; everything is done with calm and harmony.
The Process
The cherries, handpicked at peak ripeness, are pulped and then dried along with their mucilage—a thin, sweet film that the Javanese sometimes call “coffee honey.” Under the volcano’s soft sunlight, this layer slowly transforms, caramelizing the bean from the inside out. The drying process lasts about 15 to 20 days, punctuated by patient, meticulous tasks: turning the beans by hand, listening to the faint crackling of the drying mucilage, and sensing the evolution of its aroma.
The flavor profile
A beautifully balanced, silky cup with notes of honey, caramel, and ripe fruit. It has a velvety body and natural sweetness. It evokes the warmth of the earth, the slow pace of the work, and that Javanese serenity that makes Babadan Honey an invitation to inner peace.
Babadan coffee is grown by a Javanese family, which has lived on the slopes of Mount Merapi for several generations. Here, coffee cultivation is shaped by the volcano’s activity and the seasons, in close harmony with the land.
Each step—from hand-picking to processing—is carried out with calm and precision. Nothing is rushed: the producer carefully observes the coffee cherry, the texture of the bean, and the evolution of the mucilage. This unassuming expertise gives rise to a coffee that remains true to the spirit of the place.
